I’ve just found the new Facebook UI via a tweet from Joffrey. Facebook is now becoming a new lifestream and a new sharing platform, which is kind of seducing. I’ve always thought Facebook had a great UI, mixing graphical coherence and cleanness, and I’ve always wondered how it would evolve. And it’s funny to see how much it looks like Pownce!

Also, I’d say the whole Facebook UI is inspired by Daniel’s work at Digg or Pownce. He noticed that there were similarities in the top bars of Digg and Facebook. And it’s obvious that the different types of stuff you can share remind the Pownce UI. Now the entire Facebook UI looks like Pownce: bigger avatars, events on the top right, etc.

The announcement of this new UI is a good news for me, because this new UI sounds pretty familiar to me. Now, one missing thing: you are still not able to choose who are the recipients of your notes (the group feature from Pownce). But I guess it shouldn’t be a hard thing to implement, as Facebook already let you manage lists.
I bet that one day, the retarded messaging system will disappear and it will be incorporated into feeds!
Note: this is a translation of a note on my french blog entitled “Facebook est-il le nouveau Pownce?“

I’m really excited by this new layout! But I hope users will not complain as for the latest (and bigger) update.

Little Update: Being able to control what you are sending to who (based on your groups) is coming in a couple of weeks on Facebook!
