Single serving friends. We’ve all heard about it. Mostly because we all have seen Fight Club. So what is it about?

What I call single serving friends are people you meet during a flight and that you never meet again. You chat with them, you become friends for a flight-long time. I have been travelling a lot this year, and I’ve met some people during all these flights.

So, the question is: are these guys only single serving friends or is it possible to create kind of a relationship (i mean friendship or business)?

Here are my two latest experiences

On a flight from SFO to LAX, I met a beautiful girl from Tahiti, who was an english teacher. I gave her my business card, she kissed me and said bye (which is really weird when you’ve spent some time in a country where everybody only hugs you but don’t kiss you). She said she’ll send me an e-mail, but I’m still waiting.

While waiting for my flight from LAX to CDG, I met a retired entrepreneur who had invented a board game. It was kind of a pretty smart game, because it involved you as an entrepreneur, having successes but also failures. This guy couldn’t find a distributor, so he was looking for a web guru to sell his product online. I am a web developer. So this could have been a great business opportunity for both of us. Gave my business card once again, then bye bye.

Anyway, none of them kept in touch with me. So I am kind of disapointed with single serving friends. On the other hand, a friend of mine met someone on a flight from CDG to JFK, and they did some business together after that. So I guess there’s still hope!
